The Club is a comfortable venue for meetings for buying and selling between members, auctions, competitions, displays and evenings with visits from a variety of experts. We are known as a friendly Club. The Club is affiliated to the Hampshire Philatelic Federation.
The Club meets on the first and third Wednesday of each month 7.30 pm (except August) at
Royal British Legion
51 Cambridge Road East
Hampshire GU14 6QB
The annual subscription is £7.00.
The Club was formed in 1964 as the Royal Aircraft Establishment Philatelic Society. This officially folded in 1990 but some members decided to start the Farnborough Stamp Club, which was founded in 1991 and was later renamed Farnborough Stamp and Postcard Club.
The programme is varied with visiting speakers, displays and competitions as well as dealers' evenings, an auction and ample opportunity for members to buy and sell at meetings.
The exchange packet round is popular, giving members the opportunity to buy and sell. We provide a packet round for some of the local clubs.
Our members are drawn from Farnborough, Aldershot, Ash, Fleet, Yateley and the Surrey borders. There is a wide range of collecting interests including stamps, postcards, covers, postal history and postmarks. If you are new to collecting or are reviving an interest then members are happy to help and advise.
On 18th September we welcomed a noted local historian, Jo Gosney, who spoke about Farnborough during World War 1. Jo's presentations are always interesting and usually contain some surprises and we are very grateful to her for giving us such an informative and entertaining evening.
On 2nd October we are having a sale of items donated for club funds. All members and guests are very welcome to bring donated material on the night, we have already been given a variety of material including postcards, stamps, albums and covers etc.
Subscriptions for the 2019/2020 season are due, the subscription is £7 for the year: new members are always welcome.
The Farnborough Club's membership is drawn from Farnborough and the surrounding towns of Yateley, Fleet, Ash, Camberley, Farnham and Aldershot. If you would like to join us but cannot attend a meeting, please contact our club secretary.
Paul H. Vickers book, Aldershot's Military Heritage, is published by Amberley Books and is "a celebration of Aldershot's rich and continuing military heritage". Many of our members have an interest in local military history and this book is well worth reading. Paul visited the club again in January and gave us a wonderful presentation on the subject of Christmas in the Aldershot Camp. We are very grateful to him for his time and patience in answering the many questions put to him by the members.
Another book that may be helpful to postcard collectors is The Story of Gale & Polden: Naval & Military Printers & Publishers 1866-1981. HB £16.00, author David Strong 01252 320073.
If you would like to submit books of material for sale through our packet round, please contact our Secretary.
